Join the Student Selection Committee!

If you hosted or attended a Duke Conversation in the past, you'll notice that the program has undergone a few substantial changes this year. Most notably, the guest nomination process – which operated on a rolling basis in the past – will now occur once per semester, and a full selection committee – comprised of students, faculty, and staff – is now responsible for reviewing guest nominations. Both of these changes are intended to streamline the application process and, more importantly, to ensure that Duke Conversations funding is being used to host guests who appeal to a broad spectrum of the Duke undergraduate community.

You can play a critical role in shaping Duke Conversations by serving on the Fall 2009 student selection committee. To receive consideration, you must:

  • Be an undergraduate student currently enrolled at Duke.
  • Submit an application by Sunday, August 30.
  • Be available to attend a committee meeting in the Griffith Board Room (OSAF) from 7-9pm on Tuesday, September 8.
  • Be available to attend the selection meeting in the Griffith Board Room (OSAF) from 7-9pm on Thursday, September 17.
Selection committee members are responsible for reading all Duke Conversations guest nominations and contributing to the committee's selection decisions. The selection committee will approve approximately 20 guests, as well as a small pool of waitlist candidates, per semester.
